Pay VOD
industry ratings
For the first time, Goldmedia’s VoD-Ratings offer the possibility to create in-depth analyses of VoD usage on Pay-VoD portals such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky, Disney+ and many other providers. In addition to the general performance of the platforms on the basis of subscriber numbers and usage intensity, the number of viewers of individual titles and shows is also shown. On the VoD ratings analysis platform, data can be modeled by mouse-click according to freely selectable time intervals and many further specifications. The usable data pool comprises all of the approx. 3.5 million titles available across all relevant Pay-VoD platforms in Europe (UK/DE/IT/FR/ES).
Why VoD-Ratings?
There are no reliable and independent retrieval and subscription figures for the pay VoD sector as yet, as the video platforms themselves do not publish any user data. However, this data is extremely important for many companies in the video industry, be it for negotiations with the platforms, for competition monitoring, or for trend scouting. In addition to the precise analysis of user behavior – all the way to the level of concrete retrieval figures for individual titles – Goldmedia VoD-Ratings also provide detailed information on the providers’ catalogs. The basis of this is a title database with 3.5 million Pay-VoD titles from all provider platforms. The database includes, for example, information on the legal situation of all TVoD and SVoD titles, production data, subjective user ratings, and viewer numbers.

Measurement methodology
THE VOD-Ratings are created in a two-stage process of analysis: In addition to a technical measurement of content libraries, usage data is collected via extensive, continuous surveys conducted according to a “retrospective diary” principle. This usage data includes evaluations of viewed titles, sociodemographics, co-viewing, and the extent of password sharing. Data and analyses on producers and on what streaming devices were used also form part of the VoD-Ratings.
About
the ratings
The VoD-Ratings are based on a a sophisticated empirical methodology. The ranking of the Top 10 titles across all Pay-VoD providers gives an overview of the multitude of analyses, and is freely available on a daily basis (daily Top 10 list over the last 30 days, across all VoD platforms and all distribution forms [SVoD, TVoD and EST], based on trends from the last 10 days; Drop Out shows the proportion of viewers who have seen less than half of the content). RATED VOD-PLATFORMS Every provider of SVoD (subscription) and TVoD (transactional, e.g. pay-per-view) in Europe is included in the VoD-Ratings. In addition to such big players as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video,Disney+, or Sky, many smaller platforms such as Mubi, DAZN, or Pantaflix and many others are also included in the VOD ratings. The ratings do not include) YouTube, and TV stations’ media libraries.
